Indian cricket league : Sandeep Patil as coach


SandeepPatilWithICL.jpgI wrote an article titled - 'how can you be fired from company you started', on 9th last month, explaining how BCCI might end up losing the power they have to run Indian cricket..

I still stand by that article, because biggest threat - Indian cricket league, started by Zee group is slowly gaining momentum. They've already announced involvement of former cricketers Kapil Dev n Kiran More, with Sandeep Patil now joining in as coach of one of 6 teams that will participate in Indian cricket League (ICL) .

Trouble is, Sandeep Patil will not get the pension he receives from Indian board, every month. Usually, each player who represented India or state cricket side in Indian domestic cricket, get around 25,000 rupees to 35,000 per month.

As for Sandeep Patil, I remember him shining as India coach contender once he took Kenyan side to 2003 World Cup semi-finals, but now the 50 year old isn't considered good enough by Indian cricket board. The right handed flamboyent batsman played 29 test matches & 45 ODIs in his India career, including that 1983 World Cup triump. Joining ICL means Sandeep Patil will either reform the way cricket is run in India, or he'll fade away soon.

To add a little update on Indian cricket league - I'll tell you that former International cricketers like Brain Lara, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath among others are linked to the competition, slated to start the twenty20 version some time towards the end of 2007.
