Off spin of Ramesh Powar has a delightful flightFiled under
Player Profile
'He's a genius. he can hit me 5 times out of the park, but I bet I'll beat him in flight off the 6th' said Bisen Singh Bedi. when n where, I can't recall but believe me, Bedi did challenge Sachin Tendulkar once..The catch is, Bisen Singh Bedi, former Indian left arm spinner was supremely confident of the air he provided each delivery he bowled. Batsman, in those days, could hit him once or twice - but not more than that. Bedi's game plan was to tempt batsman over n over ~ till they lose patience & dance down the track to give their wicket away.. Same formula is used by current Indian off spinner, Ramesh 'fat but fit' Powar. His actual full name is Ramesh Rajaram Powar & he loves giving a word or two to the batsmen (after getting them out). Harbhajan Singh thought offspin department of Indian cricket team was his, but first in onedayes, now in test match squad to England ~ Ramesh Powar has finally made the trip he always longed for. They say a spinner has to learn how to eat sixes of their bowling.. Powar has learned exactly that in his 8 year Ranji trophy career, as I write this. Physics says shorter the spinner, more the flight he can impart on ball ~ Powar is no more than 5 feet five inches tall. Common sense says you have to have a slow, easy & swift bowling action, keeping your eyes on the batsman all the time ~ Ramesh Powar hardly moves 3-4 feets to bowl his off spin. & mind you - he keeps his bowling loop going - no matter how great the opposite batter is. What no where is written, is that you can also annoy the man with bat at the strikers end. Ramesh Powar wears red sun glasses whenever he's bowling. Very similar to what Mark Waugh of Australia used to do.. the trick is ~ convey to the batsman that we're at ease. not bothered at all. You (the batter) are a fool that I'm bowling to you.. see, I haven't even taken off my glasses!!! I hope you get the idea why English batsman, then Aussie batsman be careful in coming 2007 cricket season. But as no cricketer profile is complete without some statistics - Ramesh Powar was born on 20th May 1978 in Bombay (now Mumbai) & has 6 wickets in 2 test matches against Bangladesh. his first 20 one day Internationals has equaled 27 wickets in all - most of them being stumped by wicket-keeper. Powar also has 277 first class wickets from 78 matches. Related ArticlesPlayer Profile
