India vs England
England, was the first ever overseas tour of Indian cricket team.. no surprises there as England have played first test match against many upcoming teams. But, 1971 and 1986, both 3 test match series in England, India team emerged as series winners. will 2007 tour be anything on same lines, or we'll again see Indian batting snicking balls to slip in swinging English conditions? Indian chief selector - Dulip Vengserkar feels his team is much more balanced than that of England n can beat them at their home to win the test series for only the 3rd time from this 15th tour.. but I've my doubts. Clearing the throats, I'll voice my opinion on what England cricket team is all about. You can read about their bowling here, because this article will cover only the batting aspect of home team. Alaistar Cook = Special talent. Marcus Trescothick's 'mind bugs' allowed him full 5 Ashes tests under hostile conditions downunder, & Cook survived that. Today, having started his International career against same Indians a year ago - Cook is more than capable to negotiate early new ball swing, to dispatch older balls past boundary. Andrew Strauss = confused, underfire & hence ~ struggling. Strauss could be England captain, or out of the team at same time. Although I'm a fan of his abilities as test match opener, I'll love to see ECB drop him for a newer option.. that my friend, will be advantage India. Michael Vaughan = confidence is speaking. and then making runs as well. Injury is still a problem, but England captain came out with nasty facts about Flintoff just days ago.. I saw that Fedalo Ficcaso as good for England, because when your captain speaks LOUD, you're in good hands. I'll love to see how Vaughan play our spin bowling. Kevin Pietersen = knew his talent, came to England for FAME, n that's what he's been working on whole n soul. You watch him celebrate a century, take a catch or just enjoy an opposition dismissal - Pietersen has his eyes set at spectators stands ~ looking for his girl, or a better catch than her. This tells me, along with his 100 other onfield behaviours, that John Buchanan was absolutely correct. Kevin Pietersen is not a team man. He surely can bat but will never die for his team. Ian Bell = looks like one hell'of'a trouble for India. staying still (meaning not charging fast bowlers) & batting at 5 is doing wonders for him. Paul Collingwood = Fighter. stronger than you think, n attacks when his team has lost early wickets. Loves coming down the pitch to spinners. Andrew Flintoff = overly famous, emmensly talented but requires spark to fire up.. With bat in hand, Flintoff promises to depart early if you bowl good slower deliveries or throw a spinner at him. Matt Prior = watches the ball 'very closely', goes over the in-field often. Redemption, is another word I'll uses for this new England wicket keeper, who got his International chance after 6 years of county cricket. Generally a very quite man behind the wicket, Matt Prior deserves a complete article on him some time soon.
