Moneyinfixing.jpgSome ten years ago, or may be even before that, I got to know a news that Shane Warne and Mark Waugh were asked my Salim Mallik to take money and perform bad.

To tell you the truth, I didn't really understand that news but still read it as it was in sports column and included Mark Waugh - one time favourite batsmen of mine. Then came the new millennium and the word "Match-fixing" haunted the world of cricket again. And now somehow I feel I understand little more of this new concept..

So how exactly Match-fixing is done??
- One of the method is to take 3 or 4 players on your side, who are willing to play badly for the sake of money. Successful bookies(Those who do the actual match-fixing) probably find 2 or 3 players from both the sides. When the match starts and reaches its climax, they ask the players from the winning side to perform bad and loose the match. As the betting goes high with the winning team, Bookies make lots of money by turning the match around!!

Now the question remains - how to make those 2-3 players play for you and not for their country. Well, if you get a Salim Mallik, someone who is established in the team and is a good negotiator, you always have a relay contact with virtually every playerMatchfixers.jpg from both the sides. Money is not every thing. Its the only thing!!!

The effect of Match-fixing on cricket.
- When it came out for the second time, South African team were here in India and Delhi Police had found evidence of a bookie being in constant contact with Late Hansie Cronje. Hensie(See profile) himself admitted his sins and saved two more careers by saying that he asked Herschelle Gibbs and Nicky Boje to take money and play bad. Many others like Mohammad Azharuddin, Ajay Jadeja, Manoj Prabhakar and Ajay Sharma and Nayan Mongia lost their career in that period of time, but none of them ever agreed to what they have done. And may be that why Hansie sleeps soundly and peacefully while other still live with humiliation!!

In a few days, India Vs Pakistan series will starting and I was wondering that can we fix the match from our side. I am sure we, the Indian cricket lovers can easily manage a billion or two to bribe the Pakistanis and see our team winning...

But will that win be worth??
