A six foot four male from Trinidad = what do you expect? obviously a strong body with atheletic abilities. It's a gift to Trinidadians, or even to the full Caribbean islands - that their men & women will be much stronger human beings than anywhere else. Phil Simmons had little more than that ~ he understood cricket. He knew how to negotiate new ball as a test opener, and also outpaced Malcom Marshall once on a English county stint. A test average of 22.26 from 26 matches and little better (28.93) in ODIs for West Indies doesn't show the real abilities Simmons had in his days.

That of course is a past. Present is Simmons has taken the coaching job of Ireland cricket team. I should be calling them "an International side" as per Irish performance in world cup 2007, which really was something to watch. Pakistan-Ireland match on 17th March 2007 will always remain controversial for its match-fixing allegations, but who can deny what we saw in Super 8's round. Ireland certainly has an International side in them.. may be not to beat Aussies or Proteas as of now - but they certainly should start upsetting Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and may be even England or India someday.. who knows??

I bet Phil Simmons knows. A coach must always believe in miracles. Philip Verrant Simmons will be joining as Ireland's full time coach right after the caribbean world cup. As his previous coaching experience - Simmons was Zimbabwe coach for some time before they opted for Kevin Curran in August 2005. What Irish cricket association has seen in Phil.. well, why don't you ask them this question? What I can tell, is he looked fit & similing whenever camera's showed his during windies matches in WC. certainly good sign to start with. Ireland cricket assiciation has hired Phil Simmons for over 2 years contract. He will be coaching Ireland till the end of 2009 - with ICC Trophy tournament.
