Less than 24 hours remain before Pepsi ODI series between India and West Indies starts at Nagpur, yet Cricket lovers are wondering which channel will telecast those matches..
If there is an answer to who will telecast India West Indies series - I'll tell you that. Just read on and try to understand --
Neopsorts was launched quite a few months ago, yet it has reached only 10 millions homes in our country as of now. According to relaible resources - I can confirm you that there was a a bill passed by Indian government some days ago and Neosports - the Nimbus channel which has BCCI broadcasting rights - has to share it's live telecast feeds with Doordarshan.. no matter what.
Neopsorts is fighting on two clauses - either DD-National (Prasar Bharti as they are called) take feeds 15 minutes behind the actual live match (to be called As Live), or all those urban homes of India - where Doordarshan comes through DTH ahd cable tv as well - will not have live cricket on Doordarshan..
Why cable operators are refusing to take this channel? Because in late September, Nimbus priced its channels - Neo Sports and Neo Sports Plus - at Rs 49.50 per month and bouquet price as Rs 58.50. In comparison, rival channels like ESPN Star Sports charging Rs 42, Ten Sports Rs 32 and Zee Sports Rs 10..!!
The good, and the simplest thing is this matter is that the first Ind v WI ODI starts at 0900hrs on Sunday. Switch-on Doordarshan and that live telecast should be there for you on DD - National. The officials are working on it... There is a good possibility that it won't be there - as the day is Sunday - government holiday. Don't worry and try after a few hours, try again.
If the live telecast doesn't start by the end of the match - don't break your television and assure yourself 2nd ODI at Pune on 24th January 2007 will be there. I confirm you that.
If you want to play safe - Get your cable operator and make him find Neo Sports on Sattellite. Neosports comes with ESPN-star package and a smart and willing cable-operator should be able to find it for you.. NeoSports Schedule has confirmed to broadcast India vs West Indies and then India vs Sri Lanka ODI series in February 2007.
Update : 23rd January.
After some tourbles and missing the first ODI, Indian viewers can now watch this ODI series on Doordarshan. Read more.
