Fighting win in
1st ODI followed by thorough defeat in
2nd ODI, Aussies knew they had their work cut out as we began this 3rd and deciding game, specially against the spinners. It was a tactical decision from visitors to bowl first, hoping for dew to make their chase easier and it ultimately did, but not very much. Thanks to Michael Hussey and Glenn Maxwell, green & gold team got hold of the trophy..
Invited in to bat first, Pakistani openers faced no trouble raising a century stand at a brisk pace. Mohammad Hafeez was timing the ball perfectly while Nasir Jamshed rotate the strike. Then, Shahid Afridi was promoted up the order but it didn't work, allowing Aussies to tighten the screws during the middle overs. 244 runs on board at the end wasn't a total green team would have been satisfied with but since they were playing as many as four specialist spinners, hopes remained high.
David Warner and make shift opener David Hussey counter attacked to a stand of 44 up front, making use of left-right hand combination, hitting balls out of the ground no less than three times but introduction of Saeed Ajmal turned the match around. Aussies lost 3 wickets for just 20 runs and then Mathew Wade was dismissed at the 36th over mark. With asking rate exactly run a ball for over 100 runs required, Michael Hussey was now joined by Glenn Maxwell and slowly started to rebuild the chase.
The combination maintained their rate admirably and then Maxwell hit couple of sixes to finish the match with 3 overs remaining. Pakistan may have regreted playing just one specialist fast bowler as dew around the ground didn't make bowling easy.
