Debut : Neil Wagner.
Toss : New Zealand, elected to bat.
Result : West Indies won by 9 wickets.

Umpires : Richar Kettleborough (England) + Paul Reiffel (Australia) with Marais Erasmus (3rd umpire, from South Africa).
Head to head
38th West Indies v New Zealand test match it was and now, West Indies lead 11 to 9 besides 18 draws. In West Indies, two teams clashed for the 14th time with home team now leads 4 to 1 with 9 draws.
End of day 1 : NZ 1st inn = 232/4 in 90 ovs (Wagner 4* + Williamson 2*)
Martin Guptill has struggled for runs in recent times, specially in test cricket and hence when he threw away his wicket at 97 today, going for a big shot to reach his century, he just couldn't believe. Anyways, his innings along with help from Daniel Flynn and Ross Taylor ensured visitors had a satisfactory day. Can they reach significant score tomorrow?
End of day 2 : WI 1st inn = 145/0 in 48 ovs (Gayle 85* + Powell 58*)
Sunil Narine proved to be biggest Kiwi nemesis, taking his maiden five wicket haul but then, Doug Bracewell unleashed an onslought that pushed Kiwis past happy 350 run mark. Sadly, Windies openers Chris Gayle and Kieron Powell negotiated out the new ball counter-attackingly and ate into deficit easily. Setting is perfect for Gayle to break some records in his first test innings in a year and half, isn't it?
Controversy
In the middle of his second over, fourth of the West Indies 1st innings, Doug Bracewell was caught on camera trying to srcatch the ball with fingernails as he shined the ball on his way back to bowling mark.
A ball later, match referee and 3rd umpire Ranjan Madhugalle and Marais Erasmus respectively, called on-strike umpire Paul Reifill who then stopped Bracewell at his mark and checked the ball. 10 second of breezy check, Aussies cleared the Kiwi and had another 5 second chat at the walk-talky. Bracewell continued and completed the maiden over.
Commentators quitely passed on the HOT TOPIC soon after. We were shown the replay of the incidence only twice.
End of day 3 : WI 1st inn = 442/6 in 138 ovs (Deonarine 54* + Sammy 8*)
Chris Gayle and Kieron Powell pushed their best foot forward as an opening pair but then, Kiwis hit back, mildly. Gayle hit century in his first test after one and half year while Powell brought up his maiden ton. Test match still belongs to home team but another inspiring day from visitors may open up some options for them on last day.
End of day 4 : NZ 2nd inn = 199/3 in 64 ovs (Taylor 11* + Wagner 4*)
Darren Sammy and Narsingh Deonarine began the day well for home team but once again, Kiwis hit back with loads of patience. Then, Martin Guptill played yet another good innings, taking Kiwis almost past the deficit. Now onwards, match is prone to be a draw but interesting possibilities are also around the corner if bowlers can have a say on last day.
End of day 5 : end of the match
Visitors looked solid at the start of the play today, raising hopes of earning a hard fought draw but Kemar Roach turned the match around in middle session, dismissing Kiwis for a target just over hundred which Chris Gayle completed without getting out. Fine fine win for Windies this.
