Following South Africa's massive victory over the English in the first of three Tests, the Proteas have already started prioritizing and a result of this has been the resting of Veteran batsman Jacques Kallis for the ODI series that follow the Tests in England.Kallis scored an unbeaten 182 in the first test which saw the visitors win by an innings and 12 runs. This puts them in a commanding lead for the rest of the series where England will have to win both the matches to keep their prized #1 Test ranking. South Africa however, have moved on to start the selection process for the ODI series. Taking Kallis' place in the squad is newbie Dean Elgar. This all-rounder has been making waves in the scene from some time now and will play the ODIs while Kallis rests for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka this September. AB de Villiers will captain the side, take the wicket keeping gloves as well as try to make most of the runs for the side with Hashim Amla, JP Duminy and Francois du Plessis to go with former captain Graeme Smith and new commer Elgar. South African squad seem like a high quality fielding side as well. Andrew Hudson, one of Cricket South Africa's (CSA) selectors spoke about the decisions and was quoted saying: "Dean has been in our plans for some time and might well have made his debut last year but for injury." Bowler Imran Tahir, who hasn't played an ODI for the team since the World Cup last year, will also make a come back into the 50-over format after impressing everyone in the first Test. All-rounder Ryan McLaren, who hadn't played an ODI since 2010, was also included in the 15-man ODI squad. "Imran is a genuine wicket-taking bowler and his selection enables us to explore our options in this area. Ryan has just come off some exceptional form for the South Africa A side and the added depth he provides in the seam bowling department will allow us to rotate players if we feel the need arises," Hudson added. The ODI series starts on the 24th of August and a T20 series between the two will start as soon as the ODI series ends. The squad for the T20s will be announced mid-August.
