After healthy warm-up against Somerset, South Africans would have thought of dominating this 3 day match against lesser known Kent and find a decisive result going into the first test but as it turned out, Kent, specially their openers, stood head and shoulders with the visitors and then considerable amount of rain washed out hopes of a result..

Electing to bowl first, Proteas wanted their new ball bowlers to destroy opposition by captain Sam Northeast and young Daniel Bell-Drummond added solid 81 before Dale Steyn made the break through shorly before the lunch break. Then onwards, Morne Morkel managed to make some impression on middle order while Imran Tahir cleaned up the tail. Mike Powell stayed unbeaten on a patient 48.

Graeme Smith and Alviro Petersen negotiated out the new ball but both got out before the stumps. Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis began second day confidently and retired after respective half centuries. Jacques Rudolph and JP Duminy played good innings to fetch 104 runs lead for visitors.

Once again, Northeast and Bell-Drummond had all the answers to South African seamers in second innings, adding a century stand before match was called off as a draw.
