Kiwis, having batted poorly in first ODI, elected to field and there was Gayle again, smashing 9 sixes in his century and he may have touched the double had he kept a cool head and batted all the quota of overs. Nevertheless, he gave home team a strong start and Marlon Samuels finished with another century, posting a strong total on board.
New Zealand batsmen finally managed to express themselves with three batters reaching fifties but none of them continued to get the three figure score. Visitors continued to lose wickets at regular interval and asking rate kept on increasing untill they fell 55 runs short.
