Match summary

Chennai started the season hoping to make hat-trick of IPL victories but it probably won't happen now after defending champions were defeated by Punjab fair and square. This win keeps Punjab alive for a place in play-offs.. Invited in to bat first, Chennai soon found out there was lots of help for seamers on Dharamsala pitch and batsmen continued to struggle. Both openers perished before the powerplays and then Suresh Raina, having crunched couple of sixes, was claimed by Azhar Mahmood to force visitors to bat cautiously. Parvinder Awana bowled the best, sticking to a tight line and length. Dwayne Bravo scratched around to give home team a run a ball target but it was never going to be threatening enough, specially after Adam Gilchrist got going.

Playing his first match since fixing hamtring injury, Gilchrist stayed till the end, earning an important win.
