Head to head

146th England v West Indies test match it was and now, England have won 44 but West Indies still lead with 53 victories besides 49 draws. In England, two teams clashed for the 81st time and home team marginally leads at 31 wins to 29 with 21 draws. At the venue, Lord's in London, England now leads 9 wins to 4 with 7 draws..

End of day 1 : WI 243/9 in 89.4 ovs (Chanderpual 87*)
It was a good toss to win for home team with cloud cover overhead but Windies young top order were upto the task with Adrian Barath and Darren Bravo spending quality time at the crease and then Shivnarine Chanderpual sat down like a pillar but Stuart Broad ripped the middle and lower order apart in the last session to peg visitors back. Chanderpual is still there with just the last man to come.

End of day 2 : Eng 259/3 in 80.2 ovs (Strauss 121* + Bell 5*)
It took England just one ball to clean up debutant Shannon Gabriel and then openers negotiated out the new ball comfortably. Andrew Strauss fought his way to his first century in 18 months to take England in lead but Windies did manage couple of wickets in last session to manage a simple when umpires called for early close of play.

End of day 3 : WI 120/4 in 50 ovs (Chanderpual 34* + Samuels 26*)
The best day Windies have had so far on this tour, or at least in this test match, yet it wasn't enough for them to balance out. It was a commendable effort from visitors to snatch last 7 wickets for just 139 runs more and even their opener had began well but eventually home team grabbed 4 wickets in last session to keep their noses ahead. Chanderpual and Samuels fought hard towards the end of play to keep windies fight going..

End of day 4 : Eng 10/2 in 4 ovs (Cook 0* + Trott 0*)
Indians didn't manage to bat 100 overs or go beyond 300 in 4 tests last year but West Indies, a much lower ranked team, did it in very first test and now they've given themselves a solid chance to push numero uno England on the last day. Struggling at 35 runs in deficit at the start of the day, most experienced duo Marlon Samuels and Shivnarine Chanderpual stood tall, adding 157 runs and then Denesh Ramdin and Darren Sammy contributed some more, giving England a tricky target to chase. Kemar Roach ate up centurion Andrew Strauss and night watchman James Anderson to finish a great day for Windies.

End of day 5 : end of the match
Another cold morning but West Indies started with warm hearts, grabbing two wickets in first 45 minutes but then onwards, Alastair Cook and Ian Bell destroyed their hopes over by over. Pitch was rather slow but there were hardly any roughness. Alastair Cook got out two runs short of the target.
