On a pitch that was dry and prone to get slow, it was a strange decision from home team Mumbai to elect and bowl first, probably hoping to make use of dew but it wasn't to be. Kolkata captain Gautam Gambhit was happy to bat first and despite losing partners early, he continued to build a platform..

3 for 44 when Gambhir departed, Mumbai were on a high but Shakib Al Hasan held the fort with Manoj Tiwary and then Yusuf Pathan saw off the lower order. Kolkata didn't get much runs on board but they were satisfied having batting their quota of overs.

Mumbai chase began conservatively with openers Gibbs and Tendulkar taking their time, probably too much and once Sunil Narine came in to bowl, run scoring got tougher. Narine ate up middle order batsmen to leave Mumbai tottering with asking rate accelerating all the time and Kolkata snatched an important win with handsome margin at the end.
