Match summaryIt was a match that made us think -- is this cricket or a movie where someone's writing the script, mixing smartness with sillyness? Punjab, still alive with a chance to qualify for play-offs if they win all their remaining matches, did everything they could to scrap their chances today, dropping catches like they'd butter fingers and then their top order failed miserably but captain David Hussey and Gurkeerat Mann Singh, playing only his second IPL match, did the unthinkable..
Electing to bat first, Deccan lost two wickets cheaply but Shikhar Dhawan, once again, batted with composure, adding 96 good runs with another in-form batsman Cameron White. The left-right hand combination were given repeated chances by home team on the field and within no time, a strong total was build on the scoreboard which should have been enough to defend but it wasn't to be.
Punjab batsmen played their strokes and perished, losing 3 wickets for just 56 runs on board. Azhar Mahmood was promoted up the order and looked good but Amit Mishra foxed him as he left the crease but David Hussey was going great runs from other end, smashing 5 sixes in his innings, adding quick 41 runs with Sidharth Chitnis to keep the tempo going. Piysuh Chawla did his bit by scoring two boundaries before departing off the third and even though Hussey continued, he needed support from other end which came in form of Gurkeerat Singh who not just collected the important boundaries but also hit the winning fsrun off the very last ball.
