Head to head

2nd Rajasthan Royals v Pune Warriors IPL match it was and now, Rajasthan have won both the encounters.

Match summary

Down and almost out of contention for play-offs, it was a challenge for Pune Warriors today to play for pride at home but they failed once again, giving Rajasthan Royals a comfortable win which now keeps them firmly with a chance for top four positions..

It was a rough looking pitch at Sahara stadium in outskirts of Pune and hence both captain wanted to bat first. Sourav Ganguly got lucky with the toss and came out to open with Michael Clarke, the 7th different opening pair for Warriors to far this season, and it didn't work. Ganguly and Clarke struggled between the wickets and then Shaun Tait made the first break-through, eating up Ganguly whom he had dropped couple of balls earlier. Here onwards, none of Warrior batsman managed a strike rate of better than run a ball, except the debutant Majumdar who hit couple of sixes in his impressive knock.

Rajasthan had a easy target in hand to chase but they knew they needed to better their net run rate as well going forward in the tournament. Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Dravid didn't last long but Shane Watson single handedly breezed them through to a solid win.
