Match summary

When target isn't huge overhead, chasing teams at times get confused how to go about their innings but there was no such case with Kolkata openers as their captain Gautam Gambhir attacked Delhi new ball bowlers smartly and raised second successive fifty stand with Brendon McCullum who took over once powerplays got over, scoring his maiden fifty of the season. Jacques Kallis tickled the ball smartly to keep Delhi seamers at bay and even though Umesh Yadav removed both McCullum and Kallis off back to back ball with similar short deliveries, result was already written on the wall.

Earlier, Delhi captain Virender Sehwag won the toss and elected to bat on what he tipped as a pitch which will slow down later on. David Warner, playing his first game of the season, played out a maiden from fellow countryman Brett Lee first up but Virender Sehwag snatched 16 runs off Pradeep Sangwan from other end to set home team on the route. Sehwag was in no mercy mood which lead to his downfall against expericenced Jacques Kallis who also claimed Warner in his next over. Mahela Jayawardene edged one to keeper but umpire didn't rule him out and Gambhit gave Sri Lankan a mouthful which fired up the right hander and he started to rebuild Delhi's innings with Ross Taylor. Sadly, Taylor struggled once again and Kolkata managed to rip middle order apart with Sunil Narine spinning the web around. It was due to Irfan Pathan's counter attack that Delhi crossed 150 runs mark.

Most runs in IPL 2012 : Virender Sehwag now has taken over Ajinkya Rahane. This is the second time Sehwag had got hold of orange cap this season. Previously he got it for just an hour in a match against Rajasthan before Rahane snatched it back.
Irfan Pathan now has been hit for most fours in IPL history.
This was Kolkata Knight Rider's 6th victory in a row and 7th match without a loss after one game was rained out for them.
