Match summary

We often talk about it's cricket and anything can happen but how many times does something out of the ordinary does happen? often, teams bat first, put huge totals on board and invariably defend successfully barring few good knocks but today, Bangalore indeed surprized visitors through some exceptional hitting from AB de Villiers. Chasing huge target of 183, Royal Challengers were given a good start single handedly by Tillakaratne Dilshan as struck the ball aggressively while Chris Gayle tried to get his eye in at the other end before he perished. Dilshan raced to his half century off just 29 balls but quick departures of Virat Kohli and Asad Pathan through some acrobatic catching from Dale Steyn pegged home team back. Then onwards, it was AB de Villiers show. With asking rate hovering over 13 runs an over, de Villiers blasted his country-man Dale Steyn for 23 runs in one over to settle the scores.

Earlier, Deccan were given a rocket start by Shikhar Dhawan and Daniel Harris who was playing his first game of the season. Left-right hand combination quickly found out pitch was like a cement stripe, giving nothing to bowlers and hence they concentrated not just on striking big but also building a foundation. Result? 86 runs came off just 11.4 overs before Harris was out through a bad call from Dhawan. Cameron White joined Dhawan and once again, batsmen mixed caution with aggression to perfectly, adding another 82 runs while Kumar Sangakkara smashed a four and a six off just 3 balls he faced, propelling visitors to a solid total after being invited in to bat first.

Most sixes in IPL career : Chris Gayle completed 100 sixes, the first batsman to reach the mark, cruising well past his next rival Suresh Raina of Chennai.
