Head to head9th Rajasthan Royals v Kings XI Punjab IPL match it was and now Rajasthan have won 6 while Punjab only have 3 victories.
Match summaryEven though conditions were in favour of batsmen with flat pitch and electric outfield, Punjab were up against a tall target and they began poorly by losing their find of the season, Mandeep Singh, off the first ball of wicket maiden bowled by Shane Watson. Shaun Marsh continued to fight but Nitin Saini and David Hussey departed cheaply and then Johan Botha castled him too. Azhar Mahmood couldn't do any magic, nor did Gurkeerat Singh who was making his IPL debut before playing his first first class game. Rajasthan extracted good bounce off the pitch and their fast bowlers fetched a huge win for them.
Earlier, Rajasthan captain Rahul Dravid elected to bat, ignoring the greenry on the pitch and justified his decision by leading the solid start for visitors despite losing his in-form opening partner Ajinkya Rahane in the second over. Dravid, with his classical touch, gelled well with brute power of Shane Watson as the pair destoryed Punjab's new ball bowling, adding 69 runs off just 39 balls. Ashok Menaria came in and kept the tempo up while Brad Hodge finished on a high note but still, Punjab finished little less than what they would have liked after the start they had had.
Fact**Rahul Dravid scored 8th consecutive score of 25+ in this year's IPL. So far this season, Dravid has made 28, 26, 3, 28, 25, 42, 26, 58, 40, 57 and now 46.
**Shane Watson completed 1000 runs in IPL and also has 25 wickets. He's the 3rd player to do the double and the fastest, reaching the milestone in this 34th match, ahead of Jacques Kallis in 42 matches and Yusuf Pathan in 43 matches.
**Piyush Chawla has now been hit for most sixes in IPL = 73.
**All four previous matches at Mohali were won by teams batting second but today wasn't the case.
