Match summary

Eden Gardens had come under criticism this season for producing slow and spinning wickets but today, Gautam Gambhir proved batsmen were just not batting well enough. Unlike previous games at home when Kolkata were intent on chasing targets, today they elected to bat and captain Gambhir was unstoppable, pulling fast bowlers and lofting spinners allround the Eden Gardens. Dominating the 95 runs opening stand with Brendon McCullum, Gautam added another 80 runs with Jacques Kallis and looked poised for his maiden IPL century but fell 7 runs short. Kallis and Pathan ended the innings with flourish, giving visitors a mountain to climb.

Bangalore were off to horrible start, losing Tillakaratne Dilshan in first over and then Jacques Kallis ate up Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers off back to back balls. Chris Gayle was striking balls well but wickets falling at the other end didn't allow him to play his natural game. ultimately, Gayle managed to grab the orange cap but his innings wasn't enough to save Bangalore from a huge defeat.
