Match summary

At the same venue where Chennai chased down two hundred run target little over a week ago, target of 156 wasn't threatening one against a not so dangerous side Punjab, specially after openers Francois du Plessis and Subramaniam Badrinath eased their way to 47 runs inside the power plays. Strangely, so far a flop show this season = Suresh Raina, couldn't get going and neigther did Wridhiman Saha who was promoted up the order. Asking run rate kept on increasing and at the end, despite Dwayne Bravo's heroics as Punjab bowlers stuck to their line and length. Azhar Mahmood bowled the best but Piyush Chawla impessed once again.

Earlier, Punjab were given a solid start by Mandeep Singh who was joined by in-form Shaun Marsh. The right & left hand combination were going good at over 8 runs an over agains the new ball but R Ashwin managed to touch a straight drive from Singh to dismiss Shaun in a lucky manner and even though Azhar Mahmood smashed couple of sixes coming in as pinch hitter, defending champions slowly but surely tightened the screws in the middle overs and restricted visitors to a total good 25-35 runs less than what they should have eased their way to.
