Match summary
From 3 previous meeting, Mumbai had never beat Punjab in their backyard at Mohali. On the flip side, so far this season, no team had successfully defended a total at the venue. Meaning, one of the stat was bound to change today and it did, with high profile visitors registering a valuable win in a nail-biting finish. Mumbai were off to slowish start with Tendulkar and James Franklin taking their time and then both falling to some smart swing bowling from Azhar Mahmood. Dinesh Karthik and Kieron Pollard departed cheaply, leaving 32 runs off last two overs. This moment, bowling side had the clear advantage but Robin Peterson and Ambati Rayudu did the near impossible.

Earlier, Punjab were off to moderate start thanks to some ill-directed bowling from Mumbai seamers but Shaun Marsh took a long time to get going, decreasing the run rate but also eating up the overs which allowed two Davids = Hussey and Miller, to take chances towards the end which came off. Mumbai pacers, who were guilty of bowling short at the start of the innings, sent down several full-tosses at the end and two Davids helped themselves to 7 sixes in between. Punjab collected as many as 114 runs in last 10 overs, raising their biggest total so far this season!
