So far this IPL season, captains have been tempted to field first so that they can plan their chase but what if you are forced to confront a tall total and lose early wickets? Today, Bangalore were in dire straits but Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers evolved them.
Invited in to bat, Punjab, at home, struggled early on but David Hussey and Mandeep Singh scored freely and then Azhar Mahmood, playing his first game of the season, smashed 33 off just 14 balls towards the end to raise a solid total on board.
Bangalore couldn't adjust to new fast bowler Parvinder Awana, losing three wickets for just 25 runs but after that, Gayle and de Villiers collected 131 runs at a rapid pace to a valuable win for RCB.
