Lets admit, there isn't enough time in IPL T20 matches for a batsman to score a century, unless he bats most of the team overs, and gets a little lucky! Coming a stage down, Twenty20 also gives the license to batsmen not to construct an innings but start destructing from ball one, raising chances of fastest fifties..
The fastest fifty in IPL matches is made by Adam Gilchrist, off just 17 balls. It was the semi-final match of 2009 edition of IPL which was played in South Africa and taking advantage of moderate total (153/8) that Delhi Daredevils had put up on board, Deccan Chargers' captain Adam Gilchrist unleashed his full range of shots, destroying likes of Dirk Nannes, Ashish Nehra and Virender Sehwag at Supersport park in Centurion. It was a spectacle to remember.
Robin Uthappa, back in 2010 when he represented Bangalore Royal Challengers, and Owais Shah recently for Rajasthan Royals, are the only two batsmen to make a fifty in IPL off just 19 balls.
Mathew Hayden joined IPL at the twilight of his career and thrice made fastest fifties while Virender Sehwag continues to blaze for Delhi Daredevils. In following list, it's interesting is Rahul Dravid's presence. Considered a test match special, playing for RCB, against Rajasthan, Dravid played a lone hand in that Jaipur match and scored a 25 ball half century but his team didn't win that day.
Following list is limited to batsmen who've scored fifties in less than 25 balls in Indian Premier league. We've also listed the balls they took to reach first 50 runs, and then eventual score they finished with. Note that there have been batsmen who scored quickfire fifties but went on to reach century and hence aren't listed here.
