Ravindra Jadeja was kept away from last season of IPL for some undisclosed reason but he made a successful return to international cricket after that and went on to be the biggest bid at last auctions for his allround abilities. Questions were still on whether he deserved the big pay check but today he proved his worth, taking five wicket haul and scoring smashing 48 runs which is the best allround effort ever in IPL ever. Deccan Chargers, in their opening match of the edition, failed to impress..

Invited in to bat first, Chennai lost opener Murali Vijay early on but Francois du Plessis and Suresh Raina steadily got themselves settled and then accelerated towards the end of powerplay. du Plessis smashed four classical sixes in his innings while Subramaniam Badrinath did the job of anchoring the innings during the middle overs.

Ravindra Jadeja was promoted up the order and he proved the judgement right with his 3 sixes and equal number of fours. Dwayne Bravo finished Chennai's innings on a high, utilising erratic bowling from Chargers, helping himself to five sixes off length balls he was bowled to.

None of Deccan batsman managed to find their feet, disappointing the home crowd, gifting career best five wicket haul to Ravindra Jadeja. Chennai won the match by significant margin to propell themselves to 3rd in the points table.
