So far in this IPL 5, no home team had won but of course, this hoodoo wasn't going to last long and it did in this match 4 with Rajasthan Royals starting their challenge successfully in the tournament in front of fans at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, beating Kings XI Punjab by comfortable margin of 31 runs. Ajinkya Rahane, with classical 98 runs, and Kevon Cooper with his allround performance (11* off 3 balls, 4 wickets, two catches and a run out) turned out to be the main architect of the victory..

Invited in to bat first, Rajasthan openers Rahane and Rahul Dravid soon realised that there were no demons in the Motera pitch and that ball was coming nicely onto their bats. Technically correct opening pair added 77 off just 9.3 overs untill Harmeet Singh broke the stand but the launch-pad was already set. Ashok Menaria failed but Brad Hodge, Owaus Shah and then Cooper accelerated the innings to fetch over hundred run in last 10 overs, pushing the total past their opponents reach.

Punjab were given a relatively good start with captain Adam Gilchrist dominating the 36 runs stand off just first 4 overs but visiting team kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, ending up 9 down untill the last ball was bowled, falling well sort of their target.

Ajinkya Rahane was named man of the match.
