Mumbai Indians have always been a hot-shot team ever since IPL was first launched but they have never won the tournament. one of the reason for that is they fail to turn for matches on odd days and today was such day as they couldn't chase a smallish Pune Warriors total, conceding 28 runs defeat..
DY Patil stadium pitch was offering plenty of spin for slow bowlers and hence it was a poor decision to bowl first by captain Harbhajan Singh. Even though both Warriors openers got out without making an impression, Wayne Parnell struck couple of lusty blows and then Robin Uthappa kept the tempo going. Towards the end, Mumbai extracted lot of help out of the pitch but Aussie Steven Smith kept a cool head to drive his team to a total bowlers could hope to defend..
Mumbai were off to horrible start, losing wickets off the second ball of first over, first ball of second over as well as the last ball, dropping down to 3 wkts for 5 runs. Dinesh Karthik and James Franklin added 49 runs to keep home team in hunt but soon asking rate blew out of proportions.
Ashoke Dinda got four wickets to help Pune Warriors defend their smallish target but understandably, Steven Smith was named man of the match for his patient innings which ended up the highest score in the match.
