The fight for purple cap has always been an intriguing one. Sohail Tanvir won it 2008 (22 wickets for Rajasthan Royals), RP Singh in 2009 (23 wickets for Deccan Chargers) and Pragyan Ojha in 2010 (21 wickets for Deccan Chargers) but Lasith Malinga overhauled all of them in 2011, taking 28 wickets for Mumbai Indians and making a new season record..

Since T20 is tilted towards batsmen, bowlers contribute a great deal to team's success and each of 9 participating team in 2012 edition will be hoping for their seamers and spinners to rise up the following table.

One must remember that batsmen tend to gift their wickets away in this format trying to find boundaries and hence if a bowler is confident of his line and length, he always has an opportunity to out-think them.

In IPL 5, Morne Morkel of Delhi finished with most wickets but Sunil Narine of Kolkata was the bowlers no batsman played with conviction, bowling some very vital spells in Kolkata's journey to the trophy. Lasith Malinga, as usual, was among the best along with Umesh Yadav and R Vinay Kumar. Dale Steyn also bowled some furious spells but success didn't come his team's way..
