Head to head

25th England v Sri Lanka test match it was. Now, Sri Lanka have won 7 but England still lead with 9 wins besides 9 draws. In Sri Lanka, two teams clashed for the 12th time and home team leads 5 to 3 with 4 draws. At the venue, this was the 4th meeting and Lankans now have two wins besides two draws.

End of day 1 : SL 1st inn = 289/8 in 90 ovs (M J'dene168* + W'dara 10*)
It was a good toss to win for home team on a pitch that promises to break up but their first three batsmen batted like they had other commitments to attend to. Thankfully, captain Mahela Jayawardene was upto the task and how? he collected any run he could with each batter coming in, completed his 30th test century and stayed unbeaten to continue the fight next day. It was one of most fluent innings from Jayawardene today, keeping English at bay.

End of day 2 : SL 2nd inn = 84/5 in 34 ovs (Chandimal 17* + Randiv 2*)
17 wickets for 302 runs, test match went at a rapid pace today and although both teams have a chance, Sri Lankans look marginally ahead with runs on board. First up, Lankan last pair collected 29 important runs and then Rangana Herath bamboozled visitors but Graeme Swann lead the comeback in the last session. Hosts are 208 runs in lead with 5 wickets in hand.

End of day 3 : Eng 2nd inn = 111/2 in 40 ovs (Trott 40* + Pietersen 29*)
Another fluctuating day that has now set up this game nicely. Lankans started the day at a healthy position but first three wickets didn't fetch too many runs but Prasanna Jayawardene added more than hundred runs with last two batsmen to frustrate Englishmen, stretching lead well past 300 runs mark. England made promising start to their chase but both openers got out quickly before Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott batted the way out, brining the match back at balance, almost..

End of day 4 : end of the match
Jonathan Trott kept English hopes alive for a long time but ultimately, Lankan target was way too long to overhaul. Rangana Herath completed 12 wickets in the match while Suraj Randiv got four important wickets. Good win for Lankans but sad that England's effort didn't yield them any result.
