They say arch rivalry brings out the best out of both the sides and it was evident today as India and Pakistan clashed in league game of Asia cup 2012. Batsmen from both sides dominated opposition bowlers to the death but Indians, in must win situation to stay alive in the tournament, came out triump thanks to a miraculous century from Virat Kohli whose 183 is now joint
highest score by a batsman chasing a target in an ODI..
India and Pakistan have played each other very few times in last three years (just three times) which lead to high anticipation among the fans and match ended up equal to it, starting with mountainous opening stand between Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed and ending with two superb stands that Virat Kohli put together with Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma. here's how the story unfolded.
It was a trick decision at the toss as Bangladesh had chased big total in previous match but Pakistan captain had no hesitations electing to bat first and his decision was justified as Hafeez and Jamshed started to put bat to ball at will. Indian bowlers were at mercy of left-right hand combination and it wasn't untill first over of batting power play (36th over) when first wicket fell. Indian bowlers did well to keep green team below 350 run mark but still, target overhead was a real big one.
Gautam Gambhir missed a straight one from Mohammad Hafeez to make the worst possible beginning for Indians, perishing in 2nd ball of the innings but Sachin Tendulkar, fresh from his 100th hundred, looked in ominous touch, guiding Virat Kohli for a century stand to set the platform for the chase. Then, Rohit Sharma probably played his best innings at international level thus far, putting another century stand with Kohli. scoring his 11th ODI century, Kohli made sure he stayed till victory was certain for blue team.
