Couple of encouraging chases to end South African tour, Sri Lankans intended to chase in almost every game in CB Tri-series and it worked to an extent too but today, it didn't. Indians walked away with hard fought 50 run victory, beginning their Asia cup title defence on a positive note..
Set for a target of 305, captain Mahela Jayawardene lead Sri Lankans to a rocket start, reaching his half century off just 40 balls with two two beautiful sixes and then accelerating even further. Kumar Sangakkara continued Jayawardene's good work untill batting powerplay came in messed things up. R Vinay Kumar took back to back wickets to seal the deal.
Earlier, invited in to bat first, Sachin Tendulkar dished out one of most clueless innings ever. failing to detect even full tosses, legendry batsman was out to another full toss but Virat Kohli gelled instantly with Gautam Gambhir. Right and left hand combination started piercing the gaps at will and slowly run rate started to exceed. Gambhir and Kohli raised their centuries as well as compiled double century stand. Both got out in same over but MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina collected 63 runs from last five overs to push Indians over 300 run mark.
Virat Kohli was named man of the match, but why not Gautam Gambhir? may be fielding changed judges' minds but sharing the podium would have been perfect.
