Johannesburg Review : 1st ODI.

How many people in this world has the aura to force a family of 10 to travel miles, wait for 10 long hours, hoping against hope that rain will stop sometime and then don't have the glimps of the man he wanted to lay their eyes on..??

Of course not many. But Sachin Tendulkar is one of them. I am not sure Sachin met that family at Wanderers stadium last night or not when 1st One day International was called off, but the enthusiasm of that family wasn't fading. The young girl said - "We will be there at Durban again".

Wow, who won't want to have that kind of impression on someone he never ever have met.

Anyways, there was no play that I can tell you about, so you may want to know some notes that I have made.

Notes :

-:- For every International One day cricket match, which is haunted by rain - there is a cut off time when the umpires have to decide whether there will be game or not. If the umpires feel at that time, that ground is not in a situation to stage an International match, or it's going to rain even more, or any other reason, they call off that match.

In South Africa, for Day/Night matches - the time is 10.45 IST. Which means that at 2245hrs India time, if no match has started - there will be no match.

I hope this helps my fellow cricket lovers to find out there is going to be a match or not - if johannesburg story if repeated in this India's tour of South Africa 2006.

-:- Minimum number of overs to make an International match is 20 overs. This used to be 25 overs previously, but since ICC given Twenty20 the International status, whenever a 50 over International match is effected by rain, it can be cut as short as 20 overs per side.

-:- It was nice to see the Harsha Bhogle back to doing what he is known for. ESPN and star sports both are telecasting South Africa series, one on English and one in Hindi. Here's more if you need.
