Kevin Pietersen has had the sword hanging over his one day career for over two years now during which he's played some good test knocks but none in limited overs format but selectors stuck with him, noticing his ability to bat in Aussie conditions where next world cup will be played. Today, Pietersen restored some of the faith with a century, adding 170 runs with captain Alastair Cook who was unlucky not to score hattrick of centuries..

Electing to bat first, Pakistan were off to a flying start with Mohammad Hafeez stroking new ball bowlers but Imran Farhat and Azhar Ali departed cheaply from other end and soon Hafeez too lost his patience. captain Mishab-ul-Haq and Asad Shafiq, playing this game in place of experienced Younis Khan, didn't last long as Pakistan lost half their side before hundred was raised on scoreboard.

Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal tried to rebuild the innings with 79 runs stand but as soon as that partnership was broken, Pakistan did well to cross 200 run mark, thanks to some late counter attack from Umar Gul.

Target of 223 was never going to threaten England but once Kevin Pietersen and Alastair Cook raised 170 runs stand, result was already written on the wall. Eoin Morgan was sent up the order to finish the game and gain some confidence, and so he did.
