Cricket has changed, and still is...Filed under
Cricket
I don't know when they used to play six day test matches, or had eight
balls in an over. But we have plenty of records to prove that.. then
During a test match between England and Australia, when first four days were washed out, they decided to play a ONE DAY MATCH. And very soon since then, it has become the dominant format of the game of cricket. Then they employed 15-over field restrictions and now recently brought "Power Plays". I am sure when all these changes were employed for the first time, not many liked it. Certainly not everyone. But the love for the game attracted them back.. what if its ugly.. what it its not the way we want it.. we love it!! ![]() And as the clock has tickled into 2006, they are talking about twenty20 cricket. Already four international teams have played it..viz Australia(3), England(1), Pakistan(1) and Newzealand(1). And as Australians always try to be first in bringing changes, they have brought twenty20 games to their domestic cricket, after it emerged from the home of cricket - England. Australians will be writing the nick name of the players playing rather than their original name, on their T-Shirts!! Soon south Africa will be playing their first twenty20 international on the current tour of Australia. Even Australian Captain Ricky Ponting is impressed by the format, and calls it the vision of future..so here's a game of cricket with just half a day long.. OH GOD........FROM SIX DAYS TO TWICE A DAY!?! Although my team is yet to play a twenty20 match, and I haven't seen too many such matches, I confess that I am so much addicted to the game that I certainly will find something attractive in Twenty20. But till date, and hopefully after that, normal cricket will be available as it is right now.. and getting back to that only.. here's some important happening in cricketing world - 1) Asia Cup is finally been decided to be played in September, in Pakistan. 2) Preparations are underway for the first ever Cricket World Cup in Carribeans. 3) Pakistani Captain has open his mind up in front of the journalists.. and expresses his feeling about the up coming clash with the arch-rivals.
