Pakistan edges pass Sri Lanka - NZ next.

South Africa haPakistanVsSriLanka.jpgs the honour of being the second best ODI team but they were shown the doors by Experimental New Zealand - a team which rarely plays cricket. After being bowled our for just 195 runs - New Zealand made sure none of South African batsman spend too much of time on the wicket and won the match by 87 runs. In fact, South African batting was no match to New Zealand bowling and looked flat on a difficult pitch of CCI Mumbai.

Todays' match was Pakistan vs Sri Lanka - both sub-continent giants and everyone expected a great contest. But after Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif were called back home by PCA for failing the drug test, Pakistan looked in trouble.

In fact, first 15 over of this Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 3rd Match in 2006 ICC champions trophy showed that Sri Lanka were lot better team. And then Pakistan made a comeback to bowl Shoaib Mallik, Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez to restrict Sri Lanka to just 253 in their 50 overs.

Pakistan opener's looked very comfortable but Sri Lankan's were giving away nothing. Runs kept on coming here and there and so did the wickets. But in the end, Pakistan's dark horse - Abdur Razzaq smashed 35 off 24 balls to take Pakistan home.

It has to be said that even when Sri Lanka lost this match, they look very good to make it to the semi-finals - probably beating both New Zealand and South Africa and them hoping New Zealand to lose to Pakistan..... and then hoping to have some easier team in semi-final. In short - the points table for ICC Champions trophy 2006 is getting hotter!!
