Can't be a dummy captain : Younis Khan.Filed under
Cricket News
We - the humans, seek thrill's in our lives. We tend to fall so much
into the mystery of a story that we can't wait to see the end. But also
want it to go on and on, in order to keep the thrill alive.
Today I have a story for you which may be very similar, and surely will give you pleasure of reading it, but I also hope it doesn't hurt anyone in any manner. Thrill us, but let the ending be HAPPY. So the start : Younis Khan refuses captainship. Just two days before Pakistan team leaves for India to Participate in ICC Champions trophy (the schedule), in the case of Injamam's unavailability, Younis Khan - who was given the captainship of Pakistani team, rejected to take the responsibility. And in a very thrilling manner too. He arrived at the press conference, insisted that he first says what he wants to say and will take the questions later, and blurted out - "I don't want to me a dummy captain". What was between the lines that give me full time captainship or don't give me any. Younis left the room right after saying what he said, as the reports kept crying for answers..!! ![]() The possible reason's that media predicts : Younis was not happy about Faisal Iqbal being included into Pakistan squad for ICC Champions trophy, he also didn't like waiting for almost 20 minutes to meet PCB Chairman - Shahrayar Khan outside his office a day before, and someone also has reported that Younis didn't like the dismissal of a worker at National Cricket Academy.... Interesting, isn't it? Here I have to tell you that I personally respect Younis Khan as a cricketer very much and feel he is a good man. Some history picks on Younis that you may like : Pick 1. Younis Khan has been the vice captain of Pakistan cricket team for a number of years now. But he never wanted to be a "fill-in captain" as occurred during 2003 Pakistan's tour of Australia when he refused to be stand in captain for Waqar Younis. Pick 2. "They (someone in the board) told me I was khalaas (after his Kolkatta second innings duck). So my gesture was to those who thought I was finished. What did they have to say now?' - Younis Khan to "Wisden Asia Cricket" after Pakistan's win at Bangalore last year, where Younis Khan was captaining Pakistan for the second time in a test match and Pakistan won the series 1-0. Pick 3. Younis Khan was involved in a "dressing room tussle" with Shahid Afridi at Barbados - June 2005. This was the first time when Younis Khan was captaining Pakistan in a test match in the absense of Injamam due to a back injury. It must be noted that Inzamam-ul-haq has been appointed as Pakistan captain for the series against West Indies, starting from 11th of November 2006, when the first test match at Lahore. This surely means that Younis knew he will be out of captainship with just a few ODI in Champions trophy 2006. I don't know what to write anymore. Make up your mind about the story or wait for a while for the end of this "thrilling" story, as Younis said - "I'll give the reasons later". Update - 8th October. PCB's chairman - Shahrayar Khan resigned from his post while Mushaq Ahmed was fired just one day after the above story happened. It was said that Pakistan's president - General Pervez Musharaff, who happen to be a avid cricket fan, intervented into the matter and asked Younis Khan to take the National cricket team's captainship. Which he has accepted. And now when Pakistan team is itself in India, you can expect not many changes/firing/resignations in Pakistan cricket for the time being, which I personally believe will be bad news for every other team in Champions trophy. Pakistan is a team of loads of passion and talent. It's always good for the opposition that they fight among themseleves. Now when they won't, opposition better pull up their shocks.
