Umar Akmal. It was at Leeds on 23 May 1999 when Australia lost a match in world cup. That was against Pakistan and today, over a decade and 3 tournaments later, same Pakistan team gave Aussies their second defeat after 34 matches, winning this last group A encounter by 4 wickets..

Electing to bat first, Aussie openers started in same subdued manner like they have throughout this asian world cup, trying to get set rather than utilise the field restrictions which meant they had no momentum when Shane Watson departed in 5th over and then Ricky Ponting and Brad Haddin in 19th and 24th over respectively. Cameron white was given a bad call by Michael Clarke who himself played a rash pull stroke to reduce green and gold team 6 wickets down for 144 runs. Here onwards, Pakistan bowlers had found the confidence to go with little bit of reverse swing and they wrapped up the innings over 20 balls remaining.

This was the first time in 28 matches that Australia got bowled out in world cup!

Target of 177 was never going to trouble Pakistan too much unless some of Aussie fast bowlers didn't find too much out of the slowish RPS pitch and as it turned out, only Brett Lee found his rhythm while Shaun Tait and Mitchell Johnson disappointed. Aussies managed to put Pakistan in panic a little bit but Umar Akmal made sure his team reached home.

Umar Akmal was named man of the match for his unbeaten innings.
