New Zealand have not found their rhythm in this world cup 2011 so far but they certainly have done enough to keep their quarterfinal spot fixed, specially after beating Canada today by a comfortable margin on 97 runs..
It was an obvious decision by Canadian captain who invited seniors Kiwis to bat first on this first match of world cup 2011 at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai although it took them almost 10 overs to draw first blood. After Martin Guptill's stratchy innings, Jesse Ryder joined Brendon McCullum who was striking the ball nicely and put together a brisk partnership of 96 runs from less than 20 overs to set the platform. Ross Taylor later took over and smashed 5 sixes in his attacking half century and pushed New Zealand's total past 350 run mark with some assistance coming from James Franklin and Scott Styris.
Canada weren't expected to and neither were in hunt for their target specially after first two wickets inside first five overs. In-form Jimmy Hansra and captain Ashish Bagai added 125 fluent runs for the 4th wicket but as soon as that partnership was broken apart, Kiwis wrapped up the innings to book their spot in the quarterfinals.
