DLF Cup - Points table turned around..!!

Who told you to watch cricket when you can't sustain the pressure of seeing your team get behind in a tournament??

I am sure no body. Its human nature to love something when it comes at a higher price. As DLF Cup has proved to be a tough nut to crack forDravidInMalaysia.jpg our Team India so far, I know when our team rises, celebrating wins will be more enjoyable.

I have just come back from a long family trip of 11 days, and didn't get too many chances to watch this tri series carefully. But I feel happy that 3 more matches remain in DLF Cup.... and hopefully each one of them will involve Indian team. So for you and for me, let me craft some very important points related to Malaysia DLF Cup so far.

The Points table :-

The points table of a cricket tournament rules that you have to have most number of wins against other teams. Which will give you most points to qualify for the finals. In case two teams has same points, the winner between the two moves ahead.

If this much is not enough to break the tie, Bonus points comes in. Which ever team has most bonus points in the tournament, against any team - moves forward. If still equal, net run rate (NRR) is calculated - which is simply a calculation of all the runs made against you divided by all the runs you made against others.

And the DLF Cup in Malaysia shows points table as following :-

Team Played Wins Loss No Result Bonus points NRR For Against Points
West Indies 3 2 1 0 1 -0.28 615/117.2 663/120 9
Australia 3 1 1 1 1 0.64 551/100 474/97.2 7
India 2 0 1 1 0 -1.45 112/20 141/20 2

What does it mean :-

It means Indian team has to win both of their remaining matches to reach the final of DLF cup in Malaysia. A win against West Indies on Wednesday - the 20th of September and again a win against Australia on Friday - the 22nd of September will mean that Indian team gets at least 8 more points and reach the finals with 10 points - the maximum amongst all.

But if that doesn't happen - Indian team just has to beat at least Australia, and try to gain one more point either as a "bonus point" against Australia or a no result against West Indies. If not a clear win against the Caribbean team.

But this will leave Indian team with another task - get your Net Run Rate better than Australia as winning against Australia with a bonus point and losing to West Indies gives Indian team only 5 more points, 7 in all - equal to Australia.

The Weather reports :-

Cricket is still a game which is severely affected by rain and thus, a weather report of Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia on Wednesday (20th September) and Friday (22nd September) becomes a must. I generally like to visit two different weather reports websites so that I have a better idea of how much the report is correct, or how much its going to matter in DLF Cup. And thus, I present you weather report 1 and Weather report 2.

The Match timing :-

Weather has caused quite a few problems in DLF cup so far, therefore the officials had decided to start the matches an hour early. This means that India vs West Indies on Wednesday and India vs Australia match on Friday will be starting at 1100hrs India time. I expect you to calculate your time if you aren't in India.

The hope :-

I have been watching cricket for last 12 years and somewhere I always got the feeling that whenever my Indian team lags IndianFemaleFan.pngbehind in a tournament, and they have to win remaining one of two matches with bonus points and net run rate and all - they perform better and ultimately also win the finals.

I am sure you remember Sarjah Cup in April 1998 when Sachin Tendulkar single handily took India into the finals by scoring 141 and then winning the finals with 134.

And this is why I ask that question at the starting - "who told you to watch cricket when you can't sustain the pressure of watching your team get behind??"

I am very sure we can win DLF Cup. What do you think??
