The story of a Tri-Series that never took off..!!Filed under
Article
Cricket News
Most people call that bunch of cricketer's as "Indian cricket team",
while some term them as "Our team".. and that is where the difference
lies.
The first one sounds as a team that you are backing during a cricket match while other one expresses lot more than that. And when
it comes to security of those players, those two terms become even more
important.
I am sure family members of all those 15 Indian cricketers will be having difficult nights, but thankfully, this won't be the case with South African families who have decided to leave the Sri Lanka TriSeries which never started. "I don't know. It is sad, and it was unfortunate that the (triangular) series had to be called off. We don't live in a perfect world.", "We have come here to play cricket and everyone in our team is conscious of the importance that cricket enjoys in Sri Lanka as well as India." --- this is what Indian captain Rahul Dravid had to say after South African team's decision to leave Sri Lanka and he added when asked about his own players situation - "Never did anyone come up and say that he wants to go home. Everyone is keen to play. We are probably worried more about the weather than the security. Hopefully the weather will hold out from now on." Well, that is about all I want to write here about why South African's pulled out of the Tri series, but let me remind you another thing that happened some 15 days back - Indian cricket team were sent on a three day secret Military camp for training like soldiers and feels like some real metal has come inside them...... which surely South African team were missing. If you still want more on this story, I have collected these four stories for you.. story1, story2, story3 and story4, but if you want to know what happens now to this India's tour of Sri Lanka, read on.. A three match series. Yes, India and Sri Lanka have agreed to play a three ODI series against each other, which will be played on 18th, 20th and 22nd of August 2006. But this time, they might be shifting to SSC cricket ground, also in Colombo which is said to be having lot less rain and also having lot better draining system than Premadasa stadium. No match was scheduled there for that Tri series because SCC stadium don't have floodlights. But now when Indian and Sri Lankan board have decided to play a three match ODI series, SSC can be used. This also means that Indian team will be free lot before than expected as Tri series was to go on till 2nd of September. ![]() And here's a catch. On Wednesday, when India vs Sri Lanka match was to be played at Premadasa stadium, umpires felt that out field was not good enough to host an International ODI. They also gave the reason for now playing the match that they were concerned with players safety, not by a BOMB but the out field. But because of Sri Lankan fans and television fans all over the World, they promised to recheck the ground early on Thursday morning and if situation permits, even a Twenty20 match will be played between India and Sri Lanka on 17th of August. Well, if that India vs Sri Lanka twenty20 match happens, I am sure India and Sri Lankan fans will be delighted and these all rain and bomb problem will be forgotten. Just for information, let me inform you that India were supposed to play their first ever twenty20 (20/20) match against South Africa at Wanderers on 1st of December, so we may see another one before that...
