India - South Africa - Sri Lanka Tri Series, August 2006.

After a not so small break of 44 days, Indian team will be reaching Sri Lanka for a tri series, which will also include South Africa. South African team will already be there for a two test match series - from 27th of July and 4th of August against Sri Lanka and as Indian team will be the last team to arrive to the island, its easy to say that they will be least habbituated to the conditions..

Having said that, Indian team plays best while playing in sub-continent and Sri Lankan pitches will be no alien for them. This is a

very good chance for Mahendra Singh Dhoni who had "not so good" series in West Indies, and this 2006 Sri Lanka triseries will be a gods gift for Irfan Pathan. Had Indian team went to some other country where the ball does not swing, life would have become lot tougher for this young Indian all rounder.

But this triseries will be played in Sri Lanka and as most of the matches are scheduled to be Day - Night matches, Irfan will have great chance to swing the white new ball and thus, regain his form.

Just to make this article little more informative, let me remind you that India and South Africa have played exactly 50 One day matches so far, and India have won just 18 of them. 30 of those matches went to South Africa and rest two have been of no results. The good thing about this series is that India have played South Africa in just one ODI in Sri Lanka, and they won that match.

Record against Sri Lanka reads a little better for India as out of 89 encounters, India came victorious on 47 occasions, while Sri Lanka won 35 times with 7 matches yeilding no result. But when it comes to playing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, like this tri-series, let me tell you that its not easy. I remember mighty Australian team visiting Sri Lanka in their peak, and managed to win just one out of 5 one day matches that they played. You can win against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka in test matches, but beating them in an ODI at their ground is not an easy job..

India have won 9, lost 19 with 5 no result matches against Sri Lanka on their grounds.

Well, its again Tensports. Its been 8 months since I started to blog about Indian cricket, and to tell you frankly, this channel has been there in my articles at least 40% of the times. Right from Pakistan tour, to the West Indies tour and now the Sri Lankan triseries - tensports have reserved the telecast rights way in advance and no matter you like it or not - that is the channel you got to have to watch cricket these days.

Its still a mystry that will Doordarshan again fight with Tensports to share their feeds or not, but its for sure that if you have Tensports at your home, you are at the comfortable side. And there are lots of chances that you do, as Tensports is now available throught Dish Tv and lot more local cable operators in India have included this special channel into the armoury.

Having said all this bad things about tensports, I must admit here that its the best channel to watch live cricket these days in India, as it rarely misses any ball during the match, and also the number of Ads on the screen are very less. When you are watch live cricket match, you may not notice, but there are several small ads stick with the screen and that makes viewing a bad experience. This is what used to happed when Sahara One, or Doordarshan or even Zee Sports showed the live cricket, but I saw the whole West Indies series on Tensports and live telecast was of top quality..

Was that because the matches were played deep into Indian night and viewership was lot less - as a result, advertisers opted out of those irritating ads.....................?? I would like to think that it was Tesports who refused those ads.

The schedule of 2006 Sri Lanka Tri Series

Believe me, its very simple to remember - first four matches at an interval of 2 days, i.e, 14th, 16th, 18th and 20th of August and next three at an interval of 3 days each. i.e, 23rd, 26th and 29th. All in August.

India plays the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th match, which is - on 16th, 18th, 23rd and 26th.

What after this series..??

Well, the best part has just started. Indian team were supposed to go for another break of 40 odd days right after this Tri Series, then there were news that Indian team will moving to Toronto, Canada for a five one day match series against West Indies. That prompted me to find all the related factors to international cricket matches in Toronto Canada, a history but now that five match series has run into problems. First West Indies players denied to participate and then Canada itself refused to host the matches...

So now even better cricket series for Indian cricket fans has been laid down. India - Australia - West Indies Tri Series in Malaysia and Singapore. Here's more on that.

And then we have the Champions trophy, which India will be hosting. This is the 5th time this tournament, which includes all the top teams in the world, will be played and India has been a very good team in this tournaments right through. They have reached the finals of this tournament two times, but lost to New Zealand in the first time, and couldn't managed to win the last time as Rain God interupted.
