India cricket - latest news 7th June 2006.Filed under
Cricket News
When the first test match between India and West Indies started, all
the news papers and news websites were filled with articles that how
wrong Indian playing eleven was. There was no Harbhajan Singh, no Irfan Pathan
and our seam bowling was compiled with a experience of just 4 test
matches. The first three, or may be 2 and half days went as everyone
had expected but we all know how well Indian team fought back into the
match and very nearly won it as well..
It can be said that it was equally bad cricket from West Indies as much Team India played well, but this was the same team that beat us 4-1 in
the ODI series and were
full of confidence. Moreover, Indians have never been a great test
match side, specially in West Indies and we must praise them on their
fighting spirit.Things are at rest for a few days before the second test at St. Lucia starts on Saturday - 10th of June (the schedule), so I feel its good time to concentrate on some other happening related to cricket.. read on - 1) Irfan Pathan needs to improve his bowling speed. And according to cricket experts, Andy Roberts - the former West Indian fast bowlers is the best man to have some tips from. Irfan Pathan is doing the same these days and trying to bring some changes to his bowling action. He is trying to correct his jump to be precise. Here's more on the story if you feel the need for it.. 2) There was some confusion towards the end of Day 4 of Antigua test, and that resulted in a loss of 13 minutes. It may not make much sense but Indian team might have got the last wicket standing on Day 5 iff that 13 minutes might not have been lost into the match. Isn't it. Here's that story of what actually happened - I call it "Dhoni's six, Ganga's catch and Lara's irritation". 3) Wasim Jaffer - the latest try at the top of the order for India has been making waves on television channels and at other media places. The fact remains that he was always a good played, had an average of 51.43 in Domestic cricket and never really performed too badly. Anyways, lets forget about the past and concentrate on the present. And the present has Jaffer's 212 at Antigua, which happens to be the 7th highest score by an Indian outside the sub-continent. Jaffer also entered the record books for scoring a double century against west Indies after being an opener. Here's an interesting list for you. 4) West Indies were forced to bowl with one bowler less when Fidel Edwards pulled up an hamstring injury towards the tea time on the third day. Now he is not fit enough to play in the second test at St. Lucia and West Indies have called on Pedro Collins as a replacement. Pedro Collins has played 29 test matches for West Indies so far - his last test match being in April 2005 Against the South Africans... and if you
don't really remember him, let me remind you that he is a left arm fast
bowler who gets little bit of bounce and has the capability to bring
the ball in to the right handers... Having said that, the problem for West Indies right now is that not first class cricket has been played these days there and that has forced them to go back to some experience rather than to a bowler who is in good form.... it won't be a surprise if we see Perdo collins play the second test, when it starts on Saturday and he loos flat and rusty.. The rest of the team for West Indies is same and most probable replacement for Fidel Edwads into the test match eleven is Jerome Taylor. Here's the West Indian squad. 5) Now be ready to laugh a little because the news I have for you now, may not be as informative, or related to cricket that much. Indian wicket keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni belongs to Jharkhand and people have been known to love this cricketer as much as they love Gutkha's - a chewing tobacco. Now the local manufacturers have seen the opportunity and launched a "Dhoni Gutkha" and no surprise that its been an instant hit. Dhoni is the latest golden man of India right now and no matter what he touches... it turns into gold. Related ArticlesCricket News
