The match preview.
Indian team is on the tour of West Indies and they will be playing a practice match against Jamaica cricket association on 16th of May. This will be a first class one day match that Indian team has got to get a taste of West Indies pitches, before cricketIndiaLogo.pngthe first one day international against West Indies team at Jamaica again.. but -
The two grounds are different. This practice match for Indian team will be played at Chedwin Park, which is the home ground of the Catherine Cricket club, located 30 km from the city while the first and second ODIs will be played at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. This ground was destroyed by hurricanes in 2004 and has been rebuilt to be able to host an International cricket team - even for a tour match. A first class match as it will be called.
But we all know that this match will be more than "very important" for India team and we fans as these tour matches set the tone for the series. If India can manage a good win, or at least win against Jamaica's state team, our chances of playing well against the West Indies national team will be high. But that won't be easy. Why?? Read on..
Jamaica team, Jamaica Cricket association as it will be called - has 6 of their player who has already played for West Indies national team and their pace bowling seems as good as that of International team. It has Jermaine Lawson, who has played 13 test matches for West Indies and also has Jerome Tylor - the fast bowler who is making waves in West Indies because of JCA.jpghis wicket taking abilities. He was included in West Indies team 2 ears ago, but has played only 4 test matches so far because of injury problems. But now Jerome Taylor is fit and was adjudged man of the match in the first two ODIs against Zimbabwe team.
And if that is not enough to scare the Indian batting - Jamiaca cricket association will be having Deren Powell for the tour match against India. Deren Powell has already played 17 test matches for West Indies and has taken 43 wickets. This time Powell will be ready to take his revenge as its was the tour of India in 2002 when he struggled to get along with Indian pitches and ultimately lost his place in West Indies cricket team.
So three fast bowlers with international experience is a little more that Indian team would have asked for just a tour match, which will be played on 16th of May - Tuesday. Schedule of India's tour of West Indies.

But what about batting of Jamaica cricket team?? Well, its world class. Or of the class that West Indies is showing the world in recent matches. Jamaica team will be having Wavell hinds, Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels - all of whom has played at the highest level and made a name for themselves in International cricket arena and to accompany them there will be Carlton Baugh, the wicket keeper batsman who is fighting for the wicket keepers place in West Indies team and has nearly won it from Denesh Ramdin (Wicket keeper batsman from Trinidad).
So all in all, it will be a good practice match for Indian team and hopefully this first class one dayer will set the perfect tone for our Indian team for the 5 ODI series. Here is the full team of Jamaica cricket association. But what about the live telecast or even replay of this practice match between India and JCA. Well, news is not good in that regard. Tensports has the telecast rights for the West Indies tour and its very unlikely that they will be covering this one dayer against Jamaica. But wait for 2 days and you will have Indian team battling it out against the National team of West Indies and that will be live for you. Here is more information on this India's tour of Caribbean.

India vs Jamaica - The tour match information.

It was a perfect start for the Indians. Or may be a little too easy start but all in all, this One day match against Jamaica proved to be a inspirational one for Team India, who firmly believes that this 2006 tour is their best chance to win their second only test series in Caribbean.

The Practice match started in the usual manner - Dravid again opening with Sehwag and both of them playing their shots watchfully. Then Sehwag grew in confidence and started to hit Jamaican opening bowlers - Lawson and Powell (Both have played test match for West Indies) all over the ground in his usual manner before falling to the later one - caught by the wicket keeper.

Then came the surprize package in Suresh Raina who is fastly maiking news these days and Chedwin Park in Jamaica seemed like his home ground. Those typical left handers cover drives and square cuts must have been worth a watch but to tell you frankly, I too didn't see this match. For the obvious reason that it wasn't live on any channel. But I have read reports on quite a few CricketCrazy1.jpgwebsites and also heard it on Television news that it was very controlled and confident innings by Suresh Raina.

Suresh Raina retired from his innings to give his team mates some batting practise but Yuvraj and and Kaif failed to make early news as Raina did. Then there was Mahendra Singh Dhoni - who took the lime light of this tour match against Jamaica cricket association by hitting three powerfully sixes and three fours in his 23 ball 45 . Result - India bouncing to 289 in their 50 overs.

Jamaican team never looked like in the chase when Irfan Pathan took the early wicket of D P Hayatt. As many as 9 bowlers were used by Captain Rahul Dravid in this match and it really proved to e a good test for all of them as 7 of them managed wickets. Munaf Patel bowled the maximum number of overs(9 in all) and got most wickets - 3. Now what else I should tell you about this Practice match.

Here is the scorecard of India vs Jamaica for you - see it and make your own imaginations. I'll see you in the morning of 19th when I'll have the INTERNATIONAL MATCH to tell you about. And yes. one more thing - Ramesh Powar has been ruled out of the first ODI against West Indies because of a twisted ankle which he managed during a practise match on 15th. If you are thinking that he is such a fat cricketer and must be prone to injuries a lot, As I did, read this interview with Ramesh Powar which will prove you wrong.
