3rd ODI : Australia's 50th win vs Pakistan : Ryan Harris steals the show.


Ryan Harris bowled the perfect yorker to clean up Shahid Afridi and seal the series for home team. 10 overs for 54 runs when defending exactly 250, including a wicket, is not a bad performance on debut but he found himself neglected by Aussie selectors for an year before a phone call changed everything.. Queenslander was to play this 3rd ODI against Pakistan at Adelaide Oval, probably to forget any more International calls after that but how does he reply? a fifer, giving away just 43 off 10 overs.

Pakistan defeated neck and crop and a Ryan Harris was born, today at 30 years and 107 days of age. Defending solid 286 under lights, home team had reduced visitors to 4 for 60 but Pakistan, needing a win a keep series alive, roared back into the game though young and old combination of Umar Akmal and Shahid Afridi. 85 run partnership and green team were back in control of a memorable chase but today wasn't their day.. was Ryan Harris' b'day! Right arm medium pacer, who had played plenty of T20 cricket recently and bowled late overs of innings accurately for Queensland Bulls, removed Umar Akmal and then claimed Shahid Afridi clean bowled. Rana Naved-ul-Hasan continued to throw his bat around with batting power play on but Ryan shut him off too, as he did to Umar Gul to register his best bowling in one day cricket so far.

Earlier, Shaun Marsh and Michael Clarke exhibited new generation of classical Australian batsmanship, adding 85 runs for 3rd wicket after their captain Ricky Ponting was dismissed for his 18th duck in one day career. Marsh, guiding balls down to third man wasn't a new sight but the way young left handed opener played lofted cover drives were a treat to watch. Michael Clarke, at other end, looked invincible and may have scored his fifth ODI century had overs not run out.. he was last green and gold batsman out.

Michael Hussey, calling batting power play in last 5 overs, unleashed full range of shots, clearing infield and short sqaure baundaries at Adelaide Oval artistically before he was out on 49 off just 28 balls in the last over of Australian innings.

Match notes

Ricky Ponting, wearing broadcaster Channel 9's heartbeat tester, reached upto 161 BPM before playing a rash pull shot that didn't got up and he was out for his 18th duck in ODI cricket (Ricky, in his 333rd ODI today, has 28 tons as well).

Adelaide Oval hosts an ODI consistently since last 13 years but interestingly, it was exactly 13 years since Pakistan played an ODI vs home team here before today.
