India vs Pakistan cricket has always been tense, but the fact is, in days gone by, Indian teams lost lot more than they won, specially at Sharjah..
15 April 1996, The Pepsi Cup, Sharjah :- Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin won the toss and elected to bat despite knowing there's Aaqib Javed,
the best bowler in India vs Pakistan ODI cricket. Debutant Vikram Rathode was removed by Waqar Younis for just 2 runs but what followed was something no one had anticipated = 231 run partnership between Sachin Tendulkar and Navjot Singh Sidhu. This record breaking partnership took India past 300 for the first time in one day internationals, the first time two Indian batsman scored century in same innings and even a near fight between Navjot Sidhu and Aamir Sohail. Sidhu charged Sohail, holding his bat up like a sword, asking why Pakistani captain was making abusive comments again and again.
Aamir Sohail came back with 76 ball 78 and wicket keeper Rashid Latif made half century off just 31 balls to keep Indian fans on edge of their seats for quite some time before Anil Kumble's accurate bowling and Ashish Kapoor's good catch at baundary to dimiss dangerous looking Saleem Malik sealed the game for Indians.
In all, there has been 7 more above 200 run partnerships in India vs Pakistan one day games, but none of them in India. The highest on Indian soil is between Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir at Mohali when they put on 173 for second wicket in November 2007 when Pakistan toured India after a long gap.
