This is an old post. For the latest of 2nd test match between India and England at Mohali, try this.
England cricket team have come here and they are well under their preparations.. Our Team India will be back from Pakistan soon but I am sure after winning the ODI series in the 4th one dayer at Multan, they will be keeping an eye on what England team is up to.
As a cricket fan, we should also be preparing ourselves to this up coming India vs England series...So here is what you are supposed to know -
England will be playing an unofficial 3 day match against "Cricket club on India" from Saturday at Mumbai and then they will travel to Baroda for a First class 3 day match against Board President Eleven from 23rd of February. The first test is scheduled to be from 1st of March at Nagpur..
And today, one day before their first warm up match, England has revealed that they will be using "revolutionary contact lenses" while playing that match, which is supposed to reduce the glare of sunlight and offer a sharper vision of the ground...... now come one, isn't this rubbish?? I feel its just a English thing that they always do, probably to draw some confidence and form a better picture of the loss the nearly always had while touring India. Try their history of Indian tours..
Now back to some sense that they also are talking about cricket, their Opener - Andrew Strauss feels that the top order batsmen will be the key for them. I feel this Strauss boy is absolutely right there.. but not just top order batsmen, but the whole batting will be the key for them. I know that our Indians batsmen give their wickets away to good fast bowling(which they seem to have), but they will need to make those runs on spinning wickets.. against spin bowlers who can bowl whole day from both ends and never get tired.. If they can find a revolutionary batting tactic in place of contact lenses, I feel they will be having a good chance.. but making 340-400 runs every time they go out to bat will determine their future in the up coming series..
Pakistani coach Bob Woolmer seems to agree with me as he offers these tips to England team - "The best way to beat India is with pace, not spin, as the Indian batsmen play spin better than anyone,". He has predicted that the second test at Mohali will offer a great chance for England team to win as the pitch is known for its fastness among all the Indian wickets.. I feel Bob is very correct. That's the only way from my point of view as well but may be we both are underestimating the Indian batting order, after after seeing its colours in the ODI series.. and also in the first two tests in Pakistan..
