Younus Khan announced his retirement from T20 cricket right after leading Pakistan to World Cup victory. But he still is the test match and ODI captain. interestingly, Pakistan tour Sri Lanka in July-August 2009 for 3 tests, 5 ODIs and a Twenty20 International.. the same team they beat in the finals. Note that Pakistan and Sri Lanka were involved in another test series when Lankan cricketers were attacked by terrorists in Lahore, couple of months ago. Younus Khan makes yet another comeback to Pakistani squad after short stint with rebel Indian cricket league. Now almost 35 year old, Mohammad Yusuf last played a test for his country back in December 2007 against arch rivals India at Bangalore. His recall to test team means Pakistan will have a very strong middle order to counter Sri lankans spinner in their own backyard. Kurram Manzoor, the right handed opener who made his debut against Sri Lanka, will open with Salman Butt with captain Khan at number 3. Faisal Iqbal has retained his place in the squad along with seasoned campaigners Shoaib Mallik, Misbah-ul-Haq and wicket keeper Kamran Akmal. Fawad Alam is the surprise selection, the left handed all rounder who also bowls useful slow orthodox spin. Mohammad Aamer, who made a remarkable debut in T20 world cup, bowling at a very healthy speed with accuracy, has been rewarded for his performances to gradudate to test match team. Umar Gul and Abdul Razzaq are the experienced new ball bowling options. Abdur Rauf, a 30 year old right handed medium pacer who has played 5 international games, also makes the cut. Rauf has an experience of 96 first class games on slow and low bouncy pitches at home which should serve him well under similar conditions in Sri Lanka. Saeed Ajmal, the off spinner who bowls good away going delivery (the Doosra) and Danish Kaneria, experienced leg spinner, are the spinning options for Pakistan captain. Kaneria has been keeping himself in snyc by playing for Essex county side in England.
