SummaryWhat looks like a huge win, by 8 wickets, was indeeed was huge victory although not in terms of margin. but in terms of what it meant to Pakistan, a team that came agonising close to this same cup 2 years but failed. by 5 runs. Electing to bat, Sri Lankan innings was rocked as early as off the 5th ball by 17 year old Mohammad Aamer who bowled quick and at Tillakaratane Dilshan's upper half body. Leading run scorer of this tournament, Dilshan had few anwers and scooped an easy catch at short fine leg. Then, it was Abdur Razzaq show.. 3 wickets in 3 overs, slowish pace from experienced Razzaq, who always bowls well to left handers, grabbed verten Sanath Jayasuriya, Jehan Mobarak (who was sent up the order as pinch hitter) and right handed Mahela Jayawardene who flirted with an away swinger and offered easy catch to Misbah-ul-Haq at wide lone slip. Nice peice of field setting from captain Younus Khan that was. Kumar Sangakkara, captain of Srilankan team, played a blinder, first stabilising his team's shaking innings (6 for 70 at one stage) and then accelerating well towards the end. Srilankan find of the tournament, Angelo Mathews, partnered Sangakkara well, putting up unbeaten 68 run from last 7 overs. Pakistan required 139 from 20 overs. Kamaran Akmal gave the perfect start to Pakistani side, from which Shahid Afridi took over. in form Afridi was playing his 3rd world cup final, 2nd at Lords cricket ground and he didn't want to let it go again. Against his usual self, Shahid negotiated good balls from Lankan bowlers well and then collected 13 runs off a Muthiah Muralitharan over to bring down the asking run rate.
