Most of largest team totals you'll find come in world cups. cause that's when major teams get to play minnows and impose their superiority.
For big team scores, openers have to give a bristling start to their innings, utilizing power plays, backed up with strong middle overs and a murderous finish. No wonder, few teams have managed to cross magical mark of double century aka 200 in T20 cricket which, as the name suggests, is just 20 over per innings cricket match!
Present Leader = Sri Lanka. made 260 against minnows Kenya at Johannesburg on 14th September 2007. Sanath Jayasuriya cracked 88 off just 44 balls (11x4, 4x6), Mahela Jayawardene lead strong middle overs, scoring 65 off 27 balls(9x4, 2x6) while Jehan Mubarak, on debut, smashed 46 off 13 balls batting at number 7. That's what you call murderous finish! Kenyans never recovered from the shock, were bowled out for 88, losing the game by 172 runs.
It's very natural that biggest innings totals come in first innings, but South Africa and England have scored 200+ batting second, against West Indies and India, but only South Africa managed to win while England lost by 18 runs!
