Coming into this Cape Town test match, the last of Castle test series in South Africa, home team had huge motivation to salvage some pride out of a home series which they had already lost by losing first two games.Winning this dead rubber, South Africa equaled Australia with 3 wins each from 6 tests both teams played at each others backyard inside 3 months. Australia and South Africa started the battle of best test match team on ICC rankings with these twin test series and since it ended up equal, Australia retained their number 1 rankings intact. Ashwell Prince, Jaques Kallis and AB de Villiers scored century for South Africa in first innings, reaching 651/10 which is now their biggest total against the Aussies, surpassing their previous highest score against Aussies of 622 for 9 wickets declared at Durban in year 1970. Visitors were bowled out for just 209 in their first innings, and were given no chance to make an unlikily comeback.. although Mitchell Johnson's heroic maiden century nearly made Proteas bat again. Paul Harris picked up 6 wickets in second innings, and 9 wickets in match, which is by far the best bowling figures for a South African spinner in recent times. This was Paul Harris' best bowling figure as well. Australia lost this match by an innings and 20 runs, which is their first defeat by an innings margin since losing to India at Calcutta in 1998 which Aussies lost by an innings 219 runs!
